Chubby Beagle Surrendered to Shelter Faces Weight Loss Challenge 🐶💪
Honey the Beagle arrived at the SPCA of Niagara County in New York facing the grim prospect of being euthanized because of her weight issues. Unable to move around, she had endured a tough situation in her previous home. But the saga of Honey’s adventure is filled with unexpected surprises and unexpected events.
As per a recent update on Niagara SPCA’s Facebook page, Honey’s previous owner had dementia and would unintentionally overfeed her several times. This resulted in Honey’s weight reaching 68 pounds due to the lack of physical activity. The elderly woman sadly considered euthanasia as the only option, believing that it was the best solution for Honey’s quality of life.
The team at Niagara SPCA didn’t take Honey’s condition lightly. They immediately took action by giving her a bath, starting her on a strict diet and exercise plan, and giving her the necessary medication for her hypothyroidism. Their efforts paid off as Honey was able to lose five pounds in just a week!
A recent post on Niagara SPCA’s Facebook page highlighted the incredible dedication of the shelter staff and volunteers in helping a dog named Honey who was having trouble moving. They used water therapy, including a water treadmill, to support her rehabilitation. Honey also received a support device to help her move around outside. Thanks to their hard work, Honey started to lose weight and show signs of improvement in her condition.
“I was amazed at how fast everything happened,” Sue Cable, a dedicated volunteer at the SPCA and foster parent to dogs, expressed in a chat with NBC. “As soon as she found a home with room to explore, she really started to thrive.”
This is fantastic news for everyone rooting for Honey – she is now available for adoption and eagerly waiting to find her forever family through the foster-to-adopt initiative! Kudos to the amazing team at Niagara SPCA!
According to a recent update on the Niagara SPCA’s social media page, Honey has shed nearly 40 pounds in just half a year!
The cute little Beagle is just about ready to find her forever home, as she is almost at the ideal weight for adoption. The SPCA staff are optimistic that she will be able to shed those last five pounds before she begins her search for a loving family to adopt her.
